hummingbird face FIGURE 1. This picture is a side shot of the head of the bird. I immediately identified it as an AHY/F and assumed it was a Black-chinned until I looked at the tail. I had just banded two other AHY/F Black-chinned hummers at the two previous stops

hummingbird dorsal view FIGURE 2. This is picture of the top of the head and back of the bird.

Measurements were:
Wing - 44.2
Tail - 27
Culmen - 20.6
Grooving - 0
Gorget Feathers - None
Weight 3.56 grams with 0 fat
Molt - P1 & P2 new. Other primaries old. Old secondaries and rects

hummingbird wing FIGURE 3. Picture of extended wing. Wing is clubbed over, but not as much as most Black-chinned hummers. The width of the inside web of P10 was greater than 3 mm.

undertail coverts & retrices FIGURE 4. Tail from underneath. The surprise came when I turned the bird over and saw rufous or buff on the rects. That color tended to run up the edges of the feathers like I find in Broad-tailed hummers.

uppertail coverts and retrices FIGURE 5. Tail from above. Rufous/Buff color is evident.

plucked retrices FIGURE 6. Tail feather samples. I presume the bird is a Black-chinned x Selasphorus hybrid and strongly suspect it is a Black-chinned x Broad-tailed hybrid because of the color pattern in the tail feathers. What do you think?
