Sex uncertain. Pale throat suggests female of both species. Extensive rust on basal edge of retrices suggests male in Calliope. Wing length is longer than 92.4% of the HY male Black-chinneds measured in Idaho, which supports female... Presumed HY-Male (presence of two large gorget feathers) Sex uncertain, possibly male. Extensive spangling on throat more typical of HY-M Calliope and Black-chinneds. Shorter r1 (versus r5) shown here similar to what's seen in HY-M Calliope.
