HUMMINGBIRD "SURVIVAL RATES"
from the Rudeen Ranch, Power County, Idaho

While not the scientifically-defined "annual survival rates," we recognize that "missing" years are not taken into account when considering recapture rates alone. For instance, if a bird was originally banded in 2003 and was NOT recaptured in 2004, but WAS recaptured in 2005, we know it was alive (it survived) in 2004, even though we didn't recapture it. The recapture table for an ASY birds in 2004 would not contain this record (since it wasn't recaptured then), but the survival tables we produce below for 2004 would contain it (since we know it survived). The tables for survival rates will be adjusted as needed to reflect recaptures of these "missing" birds.
